Creating Building Information Models (BIMs) of Existing Structures

Scan to BIM

Building Information Models (BIM) have become the standard in architectural design. However, this can be problematic when your design is for urban infill or anything other than a greenfield site. Many property owners simply do not have drawings or models of their structure(s) and those they do have are often out of date. This is where Scan to BIM can greatly aid your project.

We will capture the existing conditions and convert this collection of imagery, point clouds, andĀ  survey data into a Revit model. This allows the architect to design within the existing environment with a high degree of certainty when interacting with existing structures including MEP. By working hand in hand with our clients, Ragan-Smith is able to strike the correct balance between actual conditions-accuracy and model functionality within Revit on a project by project basis.

Scan to BIM Lifecycle

The typically Scan to BIM lifecycle allows our clients to capture everything and then mine the data to model what they need as they determine it is needed. This can be applied in an “area by area” manner or on an “asset by asset” basis. Custom deliverables for custom needs, a hallmark of Ragan-Smith’s Reality Capture Group.
